Job summary

First MainStreet Insurance (FMSI), a TrueNorth entity, seeks an HR Manager in Cedar Rapids, IA to lead talent acquisition, onboarding, employee relations, training, HR operations and compliance. You will partner with leaders to deliver strategic HR support and foster a positive colleague experience aligned with our culture.

Essential duties include developing staffing strategies, maintaining HRIS records, administering benefits, and guiding performance management and engagement initiatives

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in human resources, business administration, organizational development or related field.
• Minimum of three years’ proven success and experience in human resources, talent acquisition, employee relations, onboarding, training and development or related HR functions.
• Knowledge of employment laws, HR best practices, benefits administration, payroll processes, and performance management.
• Experience with AI, Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and basic PowerPoint functions
• Experience with HRIS systems such as ADP and Learning Management Systems (LMS)
• Certification in benefits, or as a professional in Human Resources (HCRI or SHRM) preferred

Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of talent acquisition process, meeting with leaders to determine staffing needs, build pipelines, source talent, recruit, interview, and onboard.
• Develop and communicate annual staffing strategies and workforce planning initiatives.
• Champion employer brand; source and evaluate candidates through community relationships to attract top talent.
• Ensure proper candidate requisition, vetting, including background checks, reference checks, and verification through E-Verify.
• Develop and implement onboarding plans for new hires and internal transfers to support integration and early performance alignment.
• Coordinate onboarding logistics and ensure staff responsibilities are completed prior to start dates.
• Build and implement training programs and tools to support colleague engagement and learning effectiveness.
• Maintain learning records and support compliance training completion.
• Ensure alignment between development initiatives and organizational integration efforts.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and EEOC reporting.
