Job summary

Commonwealth of Massachusetts – Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) seeks a Director of Human Resources to lead HR strategy, policies, and programs across the employee lifecycle. You will partner with executive leadership to drive workforce planning, payroll, labor relations, and performance management in a dynamic public sector environment.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree and 5–10 years of HR leadership in public or union settings, with strong knowledge of employment laws and HR

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Five to ten years of progressive HR experience, including leadership in public sector or union environment.
• Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
• Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution abilities.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with HRCMS, MassCareers and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

Responsibilities

• Payroll oversight and ensure proper time codes and sick time handling.
• Manage staffing patterns, classification, and compensation plans with job descriptions and management questionnaires.
• Analyze workforce metrics and HR data to support strategic decisions.
• Advise executives and hiring managers on position development and classification.
• Advise on union employee issues and serve as Step 2 Hearing officer.
