Job summary

Excellus BCBS is seeking a Legal Counsel to serve as a business-focused legal generalist. You will partner with internal clients to provide practical, timely legal guidance and balance risk with enterprise objectives, across health-care related matters.

The role requires strong research and communication skills, experience in health care law, and the ability to draft and negotiate complex agreements. A hybrid work arrangement is available, with periodic travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the New York State Bar.
• Five or more years’ experience as a practicing attorney.
• Experience in the health care and/or health insurance industry preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to balance legal risk with business objectives.
• Strong research, problem-solving, written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Supports Business-Aligned Decision-Making & Serve as a Trusted Business Partner.
• Provides Comprehensive Legal Support across assigned practice areas and business partners.
• Drafts, reviews, and negotiates a broad range of agreements and advises on related legal issues.
• Coordinates and manages outside counsel, regulatory matters, audits, and interactions with agencies.
• Maintains current knowledge of applicable health care laws and enforcement trends.
