Job summary

The University of West Alabama seeks a Director of Government Relations & External Affairs to lead the university’s government relations program at the local, state, and federal levels. You will serve as the primary liaison with elected officials, agencies, policymakers, and community stakeholders to advance legislative priorities and advocate for higher education.

Reporting to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, you will monitor legislation, develop strategic advocacy plans,

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
Demonstrated knowledge of governmental processes and public policy development.
Excellent written and verbal communication with officials and stakeholders.
Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal abilities.
Willingness and ability to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

Lead government relations strategy at local, state, and federal levels.
Coordinate external stakeholder engagement and partnerships.
Monitor legislation and regulatory developments; brief leadership with timely assessments.
Develop and communicate legislative priorities aligned with the university's mission.
Plan visits and coordinate events involving policymakers and university leadership.
