Wake Forest University is seeking a Director of Complex Gifts to advise on non-cash gifts for Advancement staff, current and potential donors, and their professional advisors. The role leads identification, cultivation, and securing complex assets such as real estate, artwork, trusts, and restricted securities.

This full-time position requires seven years of higher education fundraising or related financial services experience, strong knowledge of tax implications, and the ability to collaborate

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with seven years of experience in higher education fundraising or financial services focused on complex, non-cash assets.
  • Strong understanding of tax implications and legal considerations related to non-cash gifts.
  • Experience with complex gift types including real estate, trusts, bequests, annuities, art, closely held business interests, and restricted stock.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as subject matter expert on complex assets and ensures alignment with Gift Acceptance Policy.
  • Educates donors about giving opportunities using non-cash assets.
  • Provides training to development staff on non-cash gifts and donor conversations.
  • Develops materials on charitable giving vehicles, giving trends, and tax matters.
  • Develops and executes marketing plans to educate constituents about non-cash gifts.
  • Facilitates due diligence of potentially viable non-cash gifts.
  • Assists fundraising staff with non-standard donor inquiries and requests.
  • Partners with donors and advisors to structure gifts effectively.
  • Coordinates with Finance and GC on complex asset issues and reporting.
