Job summary

Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) invites applications for a full-time Financial Controller to lead accounting, financial reporting and compliance for the university, driving operational efficiency and financial integrity.

You will manage banking, accounts payable, post-grant accounting, and collaborate with academic and administrative leaders, while supervising a small accounting team and shaping policies.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of broad-based accounting experience.
• Experience supervising accounting and clerical staff.
• Higher education and/or not-for-profit accounting experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting and analysis.
• Experience leading development and implementation of new processes.
• Proficient with accounting ERP systems and Microsoft products.

Responsibilities

• Manage accounting, close processes, and financial reporting, including reconciliations and analyses.
• Oversee banking, accounts payable, and post-grant accounting and administration; collaborate with university departments.
• Recommend and implement improvements to accounting operations and internal controls.
• Develop and maintain policies and procedures for accounting and reporting.
• Maintain accounting systems setup, testing, and reporting; assist with issue resolution.
• Plan and manage external financial audits and interface with auditors across campus.
• Lead the preparation of annual tax returns with external providers; ensure timely information.
• Develop and lead a small high-performing team including recruiting and development.
