Job description

Airspace is a tech-enabled freight forwarder that’s redefining how the world’s most critical packages are delivered. Headquartered in Carlsbad, California, Airspace has employees who are based around the world. Our European headquarters is in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

As a recognized leader in AI and machine learning, our team leverages data and patented technology to coordinate logistics across a global network of drivers and airlines. Our goal is to deliver those packages that are truly mission-critical in a way that is faster, more transparent, more secure, and more accountable than ever before. The items we deliver range from organs for transplant, to parts for critical machinery including grounded aircraft and highly sensitive components such as semiconductors.

The company is growing rapidly and serving more places around the world than ever before. We are looking for passionate, motivated individuals who want to make an IMPACT every day to help us execute on our mission of reshaping the world of time-critical logistics.

Join Our Team:

At Airspace, the FP&A team is key to understanding the true health of the organization, enabling cross-functional collaboration, and driving the long-term strategic direction of the business! We’re looking for a flexible, highly capable, motivated team member to be the leader and the focal point of the company’s financial planning. This person will report directly to the CFO & President and will help set the company's budget and financial targets, manage resources, build executive and board-level reporting, and analyze the company’s initiatives and financial progress. This person will collaborate frequently with the CEO, the other Executive Team members, and the head of global accounting to steward financial accountability and transparency across departments! This person will own the long-term financial model alongside the President & CFO and will use that model to drive the company’s strategy and resource planning.

This opportunity offers a broad scope of work ranging from ensuring smooth daily operations to spearheading cross-departmental initiatives to owning long-term forecasting to improving the overall financial health of the business!

Your Role & Responsibilities:
  • Voice of the Leadership Team: Become a true partner with department heads alongside and on behalf of the CFO. This role offers opportunities to collaborate closely with executives across the board in resource planning, value optimization, etc. However, it requires a strong sense of leadership and fiduciary responsibility
  • Understand the inner workings of the business: This role provides an incredible level of access and successful candidates will leverage that access and turn it into insights to discover and understand what drives the business forward and help educate the rest of the company. This person acts as the watchtower for the business's financial health
  • Technical solutions builder: In order to accurately and comprehensively identify, monitor, and solve issues & opportunities across the company, this person is expected to build & maintain innovative tooling that incorporates or builds upon existing financial outputs (e.g., models using Netsuite outputs to evaluate spending vs budget); Strong candidates will bring a clear understanding of market terminology, best practices, structures, etc., and will help upskill the broader organization
  • Manage cross-functional projects: Much of the building and maintenance of these tools will require substantial cross-functional collaboration directly with department heads, the Finance team, and other ‘Problem Solvers’ across the company. The person in this position will need to engage and potentially lead productive, structured problem-solving, develop project plans with clear goals & target outcomes, and work to ensure smooth collaboration across internal teams
  • Thought leader & problem solver: Ultimately, given the exposure to leadership and sensitive information, the expectation is that this person develops into a vocal leader of the business, able to proactively identify opportunities for value creation
What We Look For:
  • Experience: 4-6+ years in roles including investing, consulting, investment banking, or FP&A at a high-growth business; Logistics experience is not necessary
  • Analytical capabilities: Experience with Microsoft Office / Google Suite and comfort using data to complete analyses, drive recommendations, and provide executive-level reporting
    • Proficiency with Excel is necessary; Experience with Looker and SQL is a plus
    • Significant experience with 3-statement modeling is necessary; There will be a financial modeling portion of the interview
    • Ability to analyze operational and customer data to produce board reporting, retention analysis, customer trends, variance analysis, etc.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; comfortable working with senior business partners
    • Experience building and presenting information to senior management is highly preferred as this role will be expected to present reporting & findings to the executive leadership team
  • Executive project management / leadership: Strong applicants will be a key member of a growing strategic finance team and demonstrate exemplary leadership, teamwork, and project management skills as this role will lead cross-functional projects throughout the organization
  • Detail-oriented with ownership mentality: Strong candidates will have a keen eye for detail, a track record of strong planning & process management, and a strong sense of ownership of all work product
  • Proactive and continuous learner: A self-motivated individual with an eagerness to learn new methods and approaches to problem-solving. Demonstrated experience quickly picking up and mastering new tools
Compensation:
  • Salary Range: $130-170K
  • 401K program, high-quality health, and dental care plan options
  • Company lunches, onsite gym, and more

Excellent culture with fantastic colleagues & open-door culture: A global team of highly skilled and motivated team members is there to make your day. Our management team will work to ensure your voice is heard and that we are all working to reach the same goals!
