Job summary

The Foundation at New Jersey Institute of Technology is seeking a strategic, mission-driven Director of Finance to lead the financial strategy and operations for a dynamic, student-focused nonprofit organization.

As a key member of the Foundation’s leadership team, the Director will be a trusted advisor to the President, Senior Vice President for Finance, and Chief Financial Officer of the University, informing decisions with robust financial insights.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
• At least 6+ years of progressive financial leadership experience in nonprofit or similar environment.
• Demonstrated success in developing financial strategies and managing organizational change.
• Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills with non-financial stakeholders.
• Excellent judgment, organization, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Lead financial oversight of the annual budget and financial reporting to leadership and the board.
• Develop and maintain financial models for strategic initiatives, fundraising, endowment, and sustainability.
• Oversee internal controls and compliance with GAAP, GASB, IRS, and nonprofit standards.
• Coordinate audits and IRS Form 990; manage donor-advised funds and investment portfolio oversight.
• Serve as financial liaison between University Finance and Foundation leadership; advocate for the Foundation’s mission.
• Supervise staff as assigned and support executive leadership in evaluating complex gifts and assets.
• Craft compelling financial narratives for fundraising and strategic initiatives.
