Job summary

Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, VT is seeking a Director of Finance to lead all financial operations for a ~10 million dollar operating budget. The role reports to the Director & CEO and combines tactical management with strategic oversight of accounting, FP&A, treasury, audits, and compliance.

The Director of Finance will own financial strategy, drive reporting accuracy, and collaborate with the Board while leading a small finance team. On-site role with generous benefits.

Qualifications

• Seven to ten years of non-profit accounting experience.
• BS in accounting or related field.
• CPA, CMA or MBA strongly preferred.
• Supervisory experience required.
• Strong analytical capabilities including financial planning, forecasting and data analysis.
• Strategic, team-oriented with strong communication skills.
• Willingness to travel to Board meetings.

Responsibilities

• Lead as the museum's senior financial leader, partnering with the CEO, Board of Trustees, and department directors to develop and execute financial strategies.
• Collaborate with the Museum Director to set financial objectives and provide strategic guidance on priorities.
• Oversee accounting, FP&A, treasury, investments, payroll, fixed assets, and contract oversight.
• Direct annual budgeting, multi-year financial planning, and long-range forecasting across departments.
• Ensure timely financial reporting and analysis, including KPIs and variances for decision-making.
• Manage liquidity, cash flow forecasting, working capital, and endowment performance.
• Lead audit, tax, and compliance functions with GAAP and Uniform Guidance adherence.
• Ensure grant compliance with Development Department requirements.
• Oversee risk management, contracts, and insurance programs.
• Serve as ERP system owner for Abila MIP Fund Accounting and related tools.
• Collaborate with HR on benefits administration and Form 5500 filings.
• Support revenue-generating operations including store, visitor services, rentals, and café.
• Supervise Finance Department staff: Accountant and Accounting Clerk.
