Job summary

Shelburne Museum in Vermont seeks a Director of Finance to lead our financial strategy for an annual operating budget of about $10 million. Reporting to the Director & CEO, you will oversee accounting, FP&A, treasury, endowment investments, and compliance, while developing metrics and controls to preserve assets and report results.

The role emphasizes collaboration with the CEO, Board, and department directors, with a 70/30 balance between tactical and strategic work.

Qualifications

• 7–10 years of nonprofit accounting experience.
• BS in accounting or related field.
• CPA/CMA or MBA strongly preferred.
• Supervisory experience required.
• Strong analytical and forecasting capabilities.
• Experience with capital campaigns and large projects is a plus.
• Willingness to travel to board meetings.

Responsibilities

• Lead all financial management areas including accounting, FP&A, treasury, investments and contract oversight.
• Direct annual budgeting, multi-year planning, and financial forecasting.
• Oversee audit, tax, compliance and internal controls.
• Ensure GAAP, grant compliance, and reporting to protect assets.
• Collaborate with CEO and Board on financial strategy and metrics.
• Oversee endowment management and liquidity planning.
• Supervise Finance staff and coordinate with HR on benefits and retirement.
