Job summary

Abilene ISD in Abilene, TX seeks an Executive Director of Finance to provide executive leadership for the District’s Business and Finance division, overseeing budgeting, accounting, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and related financial operations.

The role requires collaboration with district leadership, ensuring compliance with laws and board policies while driving cost-effective practices and continuous improvement of financial systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or Business-Related Field, or 10+ years in fiscal operations management.
• Master’s degree in accounting/finance/BA or CPA preferred.
• TASBO certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee budgeting, accounting, payroll, accounts payable/receivable to support instructional program and district goals.
• Lead preparation of annual operating budget and long-range financial plans.
• Coordinate monthly/annual financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis of revenues and expenditures.
• Support compliance with GAAP, TEA requirements, and district policies; ensure internal controls.
• Supervise and evaluate accounting staff; coordinate with CFO on financial functions.
• Communicate financial information clearly to diverse audiences and participate in Board meetings.
