Job summary

fal is seeking a strategic finance partner to join our fast-paced finance team in San Francisco. You will drive company-wide planning, revenue modeling, and reporting while implementing FP&A systems and automating workflows with AI tools.

The role requires 4–6 years in finance at a fast-growing startup or PE-backed company, strong modeling skills, and the ability to translate accounting concepts for non-finance stakeholders. This is a hands-on, high-urgency position in a flat, fast-moving org.

Qualifications

• 4-6 years of experience across investment banking, private equity or strategic finance at a fast-growing startup.
• Able to read and troubleshoot data independently. Read a table, find what’s wrong, and problem-solve it.
• Working knowledge of accounting concepts (billings, deferred revenue, AR, rev rec) and able to translate them for non-finance stakeholders.
• Strong financial-modeling skill; can distill complex data into clear, actionable insights.
• Strong cross-functional communication and influencing skills.
• Resourceful, low-ego, high-urgency, and excited to operate in a fast-changing AI startup with evolving processes.
• Experience in AI, cloud, or large-scale computing infrastructure.
• Experience implementing a modern FP&A tool.
• Track record of building/using AI tools to automate financial workflows.

Responsibilities

• Planning: Support company-wide financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting processes.
• Models: Maintain and extend bottoms-up revenue model across GTM motions and products, surface insights.
• Systems: Assist with FP&A software implementation and additional finance systems (ERP, procurement).
• Reporting: Partner with accounting and data on monthly revenue reporting, ensuring breakdowns are accurate.
• Visibility: Build dashboards giving leadership real-time visibility into metrics vs plan/forecast.
• Make data usable: Analyze data in BigQuery, identify issues, drive fixes with the right people.
• Automate: Use AI tools to automate recurring financial workflows.

About The Role

We’re looking for a strategic finance partner to join our growing finance team. You will help across all functions - consolidations, KPI reporting and tracking, systems implementation, and ad hoc strategic projects. This is not a typical B2B SaaS business, and fal is not a typical environment: we’re a deliberately flat organization with very few titles or layers, moving extremely fast with data and processes still being built. The ideal person is interdisciplinary, resourceful, low-ego, and energized by ambiguity and a high-urgency pace.

What You’ll Do

• Planning: Support company-wide financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting processes
• Models: Help maintain and extend our bottoms-up revenue model across GTM motions and products, track and report actuals vs variances, and surface insights
• Systems: Assist with FP&A software implementation and additional finance systems (ERP, procurement)
• Reporting: Partner with accounting and data on monthly revenue reporting, ensuring product- and customer-level breakdowns are accurate and usable
• Visibility: Build dashboards giving leadership real-time visibility into key performance metrics vs plan and forecast
• Make the data usable: Go into the data (e.g. BigQuery), spot what’s wrong, and drive it to a fix with the right people; we’re a lean team without a dedicated analyst, so this is core to the job
• Automate: Use AI tools to automate recurring financial workflows
