Job summary

The National Education Association (NEA) invites applications for Fall 2026 from qualified individuals to join the Strategic Federal Partnerships internship in the Center for Advocacy and Political Action. The internship runs September 14, 2026 to December 14, 2026, with a stipend of $20 per hour and up to 20 hours per week.

Based at NEA Headquarters, Washington, DC, it offers hands-on policy, research, and advocacy experience.

Qualifications

• Policy research and analysis across federal and state policies, regulations and politics.
• Campaigns and elections, voter engagement, and policy prioritization.
• Monitoring congressional activity and regulatory developments affecting education.
• Advocacy and organizing with partners, officials and stakeholders.
• Strategic communications: briefing materials, talking points and memos.
• Gathering and analyzing information to support policy decisions.
• Building coalitions with labor, education, community and partners.
• Opportunities for professional development and cross-functional exposure.
• Managing assignments and meeting deadlines across teams.

Responsibilities

• Assist tracking and reporting of Administration policy and regulatory actions.
• Assist with coordinating campaigns and elections to support pro-education candidates.
• Support cross-center team meetings and follow-up work.
• Collaborate with NEA staff on learning experiences and projects.
• Participate in NEA events and policy forums in the DC area.
• Engage in interviews, organizational leadership activities and advocacy events.
• Contribute to policy development and strategic decision-making.
