Job summary

LyondellBasell, a leader in the chemical industry, seeks an External Affairs Advisor in Houston to shape how LYB engages with external and internal stakeholders, blending business priorities with local community needs. You’ll support priority Houston Ship Channel sites, offering strategic counsel and coordinating cross-functional responses with Communications, Legal and site leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations or related field.
• 8+ years of external affairs or public relations experience.
• Experience in the petrochemical, manufacturing or related industry preferred.
• Knowledge of the Incident Command System (or similar) structure preferred.
• Superior English written skills; Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as trusted advisor for priority sites on external communications and stakeholder engagement.
• Lead engagement and communications for complex, fast-moving issues with cross-functional coordination.
• Build and sustain relationships with community leaders, local government, NGOs and partners.
• Provide strategic counsel to site leadership on social investment priorities aligning with corporate citizenship.
• Manage relationships with local media; handle inquiries and coordinate interviews.
• Anticipate stakeholder needs and advise on proactive engagement.
• Lead crisis and issues management for assigned sites.
• Develop audience-focused content for internal and external channels.
• Collaborate with design team to produce high-quality storytelling.
• Lead communications plans end to end: scoping, timelines, approvals, learnings.
• Create and maintain toolkits: messages, FAQs, briefing materials, training content.
• Establish KPIs to measure impact and improve engagement.
• Contribute new ideas and innovative approaches.
• Represent LYB with integrity per Code of Conduct.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
