Job summary

The University of Chicago College seeks an Assistant Director of Events to join its communications team and enhance recognition of the College among undergraduate students, faculty, and the public. The role acts as a strategic adviser to units across The College, helping plan, communicate about, and execute a range of events.

As part of University Communications, the team supports the undergraduate college while contributing to the university’s global reputation.

Qualifications

• Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in a related field.
• 5–7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Develops and maintains resources and tools that streamline event planning; ensures high quality in planning and execution to meet the College brand.
• Leads planning and coordination of meetings, visiting lecturer and speaker events, key student events, and other activities.
• Manages large-scale programs including Class Day and Undergraduate Research Symposium.
• Leads vendor selection and contract negotiation; coordinates catering, AV, facilities, transportation, and photo/video services.
• Oversees onsite logistics and post-event wrap-up for select events.
• Creates event descriptions, briefings, and other documents.
• Promotes events to College students and targeted audiences.
• Resolves logistics issues during planning and production.
• Researches event ideas aligned with College goals.
• Maintains relationships with colleagues, partners, and external stakeholders.
• Establishes efficient business processes and daily operations.
