Job summary

City of San Marcos, Texas seeks an Economic Development Analyst to strengthen incentives administration, perform fiscal analysis, and deliver GIS-driven insights. The role supports business recruitment, retention, and strategic planning through data-informed decisions.

You will develop spatial dashboards, manage datasets, and collaborate across departments and with taxing entities to ensure compliant reporting and timely deliverables for leadership and boards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in economics, finance, public administration, urban planning, GIS, business, statistics, data analytics, or related field.
• Three (3) years of experience in economic development, economic analysis, public finance, incentives administration, planning, GIS, or data analytics.
• Texas Class 'C' Driver's License or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Support the administration and evaluation of economic development incentives by analyzing proposed projects, contributing to agreement development, and ensuring accurate, timely compliance monitoring and reporting that meet organizational and partner expectations.
• Deliver economic, fiscal, and financial analysis informing business recruitment, expansion, and retention initiatives, including impact models and benchmarking.
• Develop and maintain GIS maps, data, and research resources, including dashboards and analysis outputs for RFIs and partner inquiries.
• Produce reliable economic intelligence by managing datasets, performing benchmarking, and generating data products to support recruitment and regional competitiveness.
• Coordinate with internal teams, taxing entities, consultants to gather project information, support reporting obligations, and prepare materials for leadership and boards.
• Maintain organizational data systems and research repositories ensuring accuracy and accessibility of economic information and compliance documentation.
