Job summary

Oak Park School District in Michigan seeks a Chief Financial Officer to lead the Business and Finance Department, develop the annual budget and long-range financial plan, and align finances with the district’s mission and goals.

The CFO will build relationships with administrators, board members, and external partners, oversee audits, grant management, bond programs, internal controls, and financial reporting to ensure transparency and fiscal responsibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Accounting/Finance).
• Master’s degree or CPA preferred.
• Possess or be eligible to obtain Michigan School Business Officials Chief Finance Officer Certification preferred.
• Honesty, integrity, and character demonstrated.

Responsibilities

• Develop and oversee the district’s annual budget and long-range financial plan.
• Oversee financial reports, payroll, purchasing, and reporting platforms for accuracy and transparency.
• Manage internal controls to safeguard district assets and resources.
• Lead cash flow management, fund balance strategy, and short-term borrowing as required.
• Develop and oversee the capital improvement plan for facilities, building construction, and bond projects.
• Provide strategic financial leadership and reporting for grants and compliance with regulations.
• Prepare for and participate in audits with external auditors and ensure Single Audit compliance when applicable.
• Collaborate with Cabinet to guide financial oversight for bond opportunities and capital projects.
• Mentor and retain a high-performing Business and Finance team; supervise department staff.
• Present financial information to administrators, boards, and public groups/community.
