Job summary

Hawaii Pacific University seeks a strategic, collaborative Director of Financial Accounting and Reporting to lead the General Ledger and financial reporting team from our Waterfront Plaza offices in downtown Honolulu.

The role ensures GAAP and nonprofit accounting integrity, oversees monthly and annual closes, prepares internal and external financial reports, coordinates annual audits, and manages fund accounting, investments, leases, and donor-restricted activity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or related field.
• CPA license.
• Minimum 6 years of progressive accounting experience including supervisory responsibilities.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, nonprofit accounting and financial reporting.
• Experience managing audits and working directly with external auditors.

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee the University’s general ledger accounting operations.
• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes to ensure accuracy.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
• Coordinate preparation of reports for lenders, bondholders, regulatory agencies, and other external stakeholders.
• Oversee accounting for restricted and unrestricted funds, gifts, grants, endowments, investments, and leases.
• Serve as lead for tax compliance matters and liaison with external tax advisors.
• Provide leadership to the General Ledger and Financial Accounting team and develop staff.
