Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine is seeking a seasoned strategic communicator to lead internal communications for Faculty Affairs and the Office of Research. Reporting to the director for internal communications, you will partner with faculty and leadership to craft messaging that informs, engages, and connects audiences across the school.

The role supports faculty affairs and research communications, elevates faculty achievements, and collaborates with Enterprise

Qualifications

• Five+ years of communications experience in higher education, academic medical center or research organization.
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism, or related field; or equivalent.
• Excellent writing and editing for diverse audiences and channels.
• Ability to translate complex academic/scientific material into clear messaging.
• Strong collaboration and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

• Advise on messaging, timing and channel selection for internal initiatives.
• Create clear messaging for faculty, researchers and students across channels.
• Manage multiple priorities including the school’s faculty compensation plan.
• Translate complex material into accessible content for audiences.
• Identify and promote faculty/research achievements for internal and external stakeholders.
• Build relationships with faculty and research staff to understand work and priorities.
• Collaborate with communications team on deliverables and assets.
• Stay informed on trends impacting faculty and academic research communications.
• Develop detailed tactical communications plans for faculty and research initiatives.
• Create and maintain a communications calendar for topics, events and deadlines.
• Evaluate audience engagement across internal channels.
