Job summary

Hitachi Rail is seeking a seasoned Category Manager (Direct Procurement) to support North American Vehicle projects in Hagerstown, MD. You will develop category strategies, lead RFQ activities, and negotiate complex agreements to ensure reliable supply chains for project delivery.

The ideal candidate brings 8–10 years of manufacturing procurement experience, strong cost modeling skills, and expertise with SAP and advanced Excel. Travel up to 20% is required, on-site in Maryland.

Qualifications

8-10 years procurement experience in manufacturing.
Strong knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical subsystems.
Experience negotiating complex agreements across multiple categories.
Ability to manage multiple categories/projects simultaneously.
Excellent communication and data presentation skills.
IT tools proficiency including SAP and advanced Excel.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute regional category strategies for Class A subsystems across projects.
Lead RFQ activities and negotiate contracts for complex electromechanical categories.
Evaluate supplier bids with cross-functional teams and formalize supplier selection.
Review contract terms, terms and conditions, and resolve conflicts.
Maintain contract data in Jaggaer/ETQ and SAP for commercial conditions.
Identify supply chain risks and implement mitigations.
Manage relationships with key suppliers and drive performance improvements.
Monitor savings and report budget vs actuals for each category.
