Job summary

JOB SUMMARY:

Supports organizational capacity-building, funding operations, and development by coordinating cross-functional projects, developing practical tools and processes, managing resources, and fostering community partnerships. Assists with core funding activities, prepares programmatic and board materials, and helps ensure organizational efficiency , compliance, and alignment with agency priorities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in translating agency priorities, capacity-building goals, and risk mitigation strategies into practical systems, tools, and workflows that support effective implementation.
  • Coordinate capacity-building initiatives and technical assistance efforts, ensuring activities are aligned with agency priorities and available resources.
  • Support core funding operations in partnership with leadership staff, including planning, implementation, and stewardship activities.
  • Help coordinate agency-wide compliance, reporting, and project management processes, including funding calendars, deadlines, deliverables, and follow-up actions.
  • Oversee shared Development inbox and team project list with the Funding Development Supervisor.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, supporting collaborative efforts and ensuring timely follow-up on key activities and opportunities.
  • Gather, analyze, and communicate community insights to support program development, strategic planning, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Coordinate the development and submission of complex funding proposals, including drafting, assembling, reviewing, and submitting application materials as needed.
  • Support Board of Directors meetings as requested.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide technical, logistical and administrative support to grant and administration services.
  • Attend functions and special events in support of agency activities.
  • Participate in administrative service staff team-building and planning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly grasp, type, see, talk, hear, lift and carry 25 pounds of weight by utilizing proper lifting techniques and working in a safe manner. This position will also be performing physical activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, and handling materials.
  • Occasionally performs sedentary activities that require sitting for long periods and repetitive use of hands, wrists and arms for handling, positioning, moving materials, and manipulating things.
  • Must be in good general health and free from serious physical, mental health and/or substance abuse issues.
POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or hours may vary with location. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

TRAVEL:

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS AND REQUIRED EDUCATION:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must pass state and federal background checks, including fingerprints.
  • BA in English, Business, Political Science; BA or BS in another field with significant coursework and/or relevant experience; and 3 years related professional work experience.
  • Responsible work ethic with reliable attendance.
  • Employees are expected to remain alert, attentive, and fully engaged in their responsibilities during all working hours. Sleeping while on duty is strictly prohibited.
  • Proven ability and willingness to be self-directed in problem solving and decision-making and perform basic assignments with little or no direct supervision while also working effectively as a team member.
  • Demonstrated intermediate level computer skills necessary to use and create documents and reports, spreadsheets, workshop materials and slide presentations, and to enter data into intricate database programs. Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook required.
  • Must keep all matters concerning participants in strictest confidence as required by HIPAA privacy and the 42 CFR, Part II confidentiality regulations.
  • Must be able to provide own transportation to meet work schedule requirements.
  • Must have a valid driver’s License and maintain a valid driver’s license throughout the course of employment. Must provide a copy of current driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles annually.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Demonstrated relevant education and professional work experience in the non-profit sector.
  • Demonstrated success as grant writer and fundraiser.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of the issues in rural Alaska.
  • Competence in multi-cultural environments.
  • Familiarity with the social, cultural, political, economic and service delivery systems of rural Alaska.
  • Experience with databases.
