Job summary

MIGIZI Communications in Minneapolis seeks a Director of Development and Communications to design, lead, and execute a comprehensive plan that advances its mission serving American Indian youth. You will collaborate with the President and leadership to strengthen visibility, impact, and financial resources.

This senior role combines development and communications responsibilities, including donor cultivation, grant writing, major gifts, strategic branding, and external messaging.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in resource development, marketing, or communications (Master’s preferred).
• 7+ years in fundraising, communications, and community building & networking.
• Experience in branding, campaigns, and donor engagement.
• Foundation relations and grant writing experience.
• Experience designing major gifts and communications plans.
• Experience with Board relations and Board development.
• Familiarity with fundraising software (Salesforce).
• Ability to mobilize teams and manage multiple campaigns.
• Excellent written and verbal communication across audiences.
• Strong project management, self-motivated, organized.
• Ability to work under pressure and with diverse leadership.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive development and communications plan.
• Lead the annual development plan supporting a $2.6M budget.
• Cultivate major donors and funders; manage grants and reporting.
• Oversee communications; manage media relations and branding.
• Lead donor events and community engagement.
• Build internal fundraising and communications capacity.
• Ensure donor management systems and accurate engagement records.
• Collaborate with leadership on prospect research and strategy.
• Produce annual report and other materials.
• Develop marketing collateral for fundraising and branding.
