Job summary

The Deputy CFO at Colorado School of Mines partners with the CFO and university leadership to drive financial strategy, planning, and stewardship across accounting, treasury, FP&A, and research administration.

Responsibilities include overseeing financial operations, risk management, and performance analytics to sustain growth and academic excellence, while ensuring compliance and efficient use of resources across the university.

Qualifications

• At least a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in accounting, finance, or business
• CPA license OR a Master’s Degree in Accounting, Master’s Degree in Business Administration or related degree
• 15+ years of experience in financial operations and progressive leadership across a complex portfolio with multi‑portfolio leadership details

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic financial leadership for the university and advise executive leadership on financial health
• Monitor overall financial condition including liquidity and reserves and advise on long-term forecasts
• Represent the institution externally and collaborate with partners on financial governance and compliance
• Oversee financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, debt capacity, and administrative systems
• Drive continuous improvement in business processes and internal controls
