Job summary

The Innovation Space in Wilmington, Delaware seeks a Chief Operations Officer to lead laboratory, facilities, and business operations. This role reports to the President & CEO and collaborates with DuPont as a seconding employer, guiding enterprise-level systems and risk management to support science-based entrepreneurship.

Success hinges on delivering compliant, safe operations; building scalable processes; and partnering with partners to expand participation in programs and funding

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, operations, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 10 years of progressively responsible operational leadership, including multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience overseeing complex laboratories, research, engineering, or regulated operations.
• Demonstrated financial acumen and responsibility for budgets, capital planning, and controls.
• Executive oversight of EH&S, regulatory compliance, and risk management in lab or similar settings.
• Strong judgment, communication, and execution skills across strategy and hands-on work.

Responsibilities

• Lead a 130,000-square-foot facility with safe, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of infrastructure and services.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, audits, tax coordination, and internal controls with senior leadership.
• Manage grants, contracts, and vendor relationships; ensure compliance and reporting.
• Build and develop a multidisciplinary team across technical, financial, and business functions.
• Partner with CEO and leadership to translate strategy into operating plans and measurable results.
