Job summary

Prince William County Government is seeking an experienced financial accounting and reporting leader to serve as Assistant Director of Finance for Financial Reporting & Control (Comptroller). The role leads a diverse team and partners with County leadership to shape accounting, reporting, and internal controls for a large local government.

The position oversees general accounting functions, technical accounting, capital projects/assets, grants accounting, and external audits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus 8+ years progressive leadership in financial accounting, auditing, reporting, and internal controls.
• Experience with accounting/ERP systems, preferably Oracle.
• Master’s degree preferred in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field; CPA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for Financial Reporting and Control, including accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
• Oversee preparation of ACFR, PAFR, Single Audit, and other audits.
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes and reporting.
• Serve as SME for technical accounting and chart of accounts; ensure compliance with US GAAP, GAS and GASB.
• Manage vendors, contracts, and budgets within the Finance division.
• Improve financial processes and internal controls, mitigate risks, liaise with auditors.
• Research and implement accounting pronouncements as needed.
