Job summary

One Federal Solution seeks a Strategic Communications Specialist III to support the documentation, preservation, communication, and outreach of ONR’s historical scientific achievements and organizational accomplishments.

The role includes archival research, developing strategic communications products, supporting senior leadership, and translating complex information into clear communications for internal and external audiences.

Qualifications

• At least ten (10) years of experience as a communicator or writer in support of various unique, specialized organizational goals.
• A two (2) page writing sample of a previously published professional publication or article, attached to the resume.
• Experience publishing content on social media platforms including X (Twitter), YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and Flickr.
• People-oriented and objective, communicating well with different personality types to coordinate and develop well-written messaging for senior leadership.
• Proven experience of leading from behind and delivering high-quality C-suite staff work for CLASSIFIED and UNCLASSIFIED meetings with senior leadership.
• Bridge operational and S&T activities with knowledge of Navy–Marine Corps relationships to translate data into communications products for leadership.
• Proficiency with Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Office.
• Experience documenting, editing, and archiving historical information per DoD Records Management Program.
• Competence representing organizations via multimedia outlets and face-to-face venues; knowledge of video streaming.
• Ability to convey meaningful messages about scientific research and invention leading to acquisition transition.
• Ability to write, edit, and publish newsletters and other publications.
• Excellent professional writing and verbal communication skills.
• Some travel will be required.

One Federal Solution is seeking aStrategic Communications Specialist IIIto support the documentation, preservation, communication, and outreach of ONR’s historical scientific achievements and organizational accomplishments.

The Strategic Communications Specialist III will conduct archival research, develop strategic communications products, support senior leadership, and translate historical, operational, and scientific information into clear and compelling communications for internal and external audiences.

Key Responsibilities

• Historical Documentation:Document ONR’s historical scientific achievements, establishing foundational scientific linkages between previous ONR investments and current products, systems, and operational doctrine, and memorialize those achievements.
• Archival Research:Conduct archival research to build greater understanding of past accomplishments and connect them to the present, creating a range of products and outreach programs dealing with historical programs.
• Records Compilation & Analysis:Ensure current documents and personal experiences at ONR are compiled and analyzed comprehensively; systematically examine documents on current programs to build understanding of ONR’s accomplishments.
• Product & Outreach Development:Create command publications, articles, monographs, oral histories, video documentaries, educational teaching aids, and other materials.

Required Qualifications

• At least ten (10) years of experience as a communicator or writer in support of various unique, specialized organizational goals.
• A two (2) page writing sample of a previously published professional publication or article, which shall be attached to the resume.
• Working knowledge and experience publishing content on social media platforms including X (Twitter), YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and Flickr.
• People-oriented and objective, communicating well with different personality types to coordinate and develop well-written messaging and coherent briefs for the Chief of Naval Research and other Flag-level leadership.
• Proven experience of leading from behind and the ability to think ahead to deliver exceptional C-suite staff work. Duties include attendance and participation in both CLASSIFIED and UNCLASSIFIED meetings with senior leadership.
• Ability to bridge operational and S&T activities with current knowledge of relationships between the Navy and Marine Corps to translate knowledge and data into superior communications products for use by senior leadership.
• Thoroughly familiar and proficient in the use of commercial software packages such as Adobe InDesign Suite and Microsoft Office products.
• Knowledge and experience documenting, editing, and archiving historical information in accordance with DoD’s Records Management Program.
• Demonstrated competence representing organizations of departmental, national, and international interests via multimedia and face-to-face venues, such as print, broadcast, and exhibit formats. Working level knowledge of video streaming is required.
• Ability to convey meaningful messages related to the organizational mission of scientific research, technology discovery, and invention that leads to transition to the acquisition community.
• Ability to effectively write, edit, and publish newsletters and other publications.
• Excellent professional writing and verbal communication skills.
• Some travel will be required in support of ONR events.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or a related field from a fully accredited institution and at least ten (10) years of experience in a strategic communications or social media management role providing public affairs support in a professional communications environment.
