Job summary

Spokane County is seeking a Communications & Public Policy Director to lead county-wide communications, public relations, and community engagement initiatives. You will work to ensure transparent messaging to the public, media, and stakeholders while collaborating on policy communication and regional engagement.

You will provide strategic guidance to the BOCC and CEO, oversee content creation, and lead outreach campaigns in a matrix environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Public Policy, or related field.
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public relations, public policy, or related field.
• Master’s degree preferred but not required; combination of education and experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Develop county-wide marketing, communications, public relations, and community engagement strategies.
• Advise leadership on policy communication and public perception issues.
• Coordinate and implement proactive community engagement initiatives.
• Manage external website content and communication tools for accuracy and accessibility.
• Lead media relations, spokesperson activities, and public information efforts.
