Job summary

AVIAN is seeking a Journeyman Strategic Communication Specialist to support a Naval Air Systems Command program office. The role involves producing strategic communications and multimedia products, with focus on clear writing and storytelling, on-site at NAS Patuxent River.

You will join a team of creative professionals and collaborate across public affairs, media, and design, while ensuring adherence to AP style and government guidelines. A DoD clearance and US citizenship are required.

Qualifications

• BS or BA degree from an accredited college or university in Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, Graphic Design or a related discipline.
• Three to 10 years of relevant experience in the communications field. Two Years of experience supporting NAVIAR programs is preferred.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance.
• U.S. Citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

• Produce and deliver effective internal and external stakeholder communications using the Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Communications writing including articles, captions, briefs, press releases, talking points, social media, etc. in accordance with AP Style and government guidelines.
• Coordinate with public affairs offices to facilitate communications between media, squadrons, industry partners, NAVAIR IPTs and other agencies.
• Support public relations including leadership interview prep, media training, event planning, protocol activities, and public image initiatives.
• Assist with multimedia and graphic products including infographics, illustrations, logos/branding, and publication design.
• Demonstrate teamwork, organization, and the ability to manage competing priorities and meet schedules.
• Occasional travel may be required.
