Job summary

The Iowa Ag Water Alliance (IAWA) is seeking a Director of Communications and Engagement to lead communications, engagement, marketing and outreach, strengthening relationships, visibility and influence across IAWA and partner organizations.

The role serves as a strategic advisor to the Executive Director, overseeing campaigns, messaging and board communications while collaborating with Amplify, ISA and ACWA efforts. Travel is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, agriculture, nonprofit management, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing, stakeholder engagement, nonprofit leadership, agriculture, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience developing and executing communications strategies for diverse audiences.
• Experience building relationships with external stakeholders and managing multiple projects, priorities, and partners.

Responsibilities

• Develops and executes communications and engagement strategies that advance the organization’s mission.
• Serves as a strategic communications advisor to the Executive Director, staff and Board of Directors.
• Builds relationships with farmers, agricultural organizations, government agencies, funders, business partners, media and other stakeholders.
• Leads marketing, communications, storytelling, media relations and outreach efforts.
• Translates complex agriculture, conservation and water quality issues into clear communications for diverse audiences.
