Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services seeks a Director of Communications to lead the public relations and marketing programs that promote the Agency’s mission.

Reporting to the Chief External Affairs Officer, you will guide a team of communication experts shaping how SCDHHS speaks to members, providers and partners, with responsibility for spokesperson duties and high-priority initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and three years of public relations and communications experience in an administrative capacity.
• Experience writing clear policy, promotional and public information content.
• Strong knowledge of media practices and dissemination techniques.

Responsibilities

• Direct and administer public relations and marketing programs to promote the Agency’s mission.
• Serve as spokesperson and oversee press releases, bulletins and public notices.
• Lead a team of communication professionals and supervise staff.
• Develop outreach calendars and coordinate promotions with partners and stakeholders.
• Engage in crisis management planning and messaging as needed.
