Job summary

The Colorado Child Protection Ombudsman, housed within the Colorado Judicial Branch, seeks an experienced Director of Communications to lead internal and external communications. This senior role supports the Ombudsman’s priorities, ensures accurate messaging, and represents the agency with media, government entities, and community partners.

Qualifications

  • The bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or public administration is required.
  • At least seven years of progressively responsible communications experience.
  • Experience developing organizational communication strategies across multiple platforms.
  • Media relations experience and responding to inquiries with trusted leadership for public messaging.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement short- and long-term communication strategies.
  • Advise Ombudsman and leadership on media inquiries and messaging.
  • Manage media relations and prepare agency representatives for interviews.
  • Coordinate responses to Colorado Open Records Act requests with legal counsel.
  • Expand outreach to youth, families, partners, and the General Assembly.
  • Produce content for the website, newsletters, and reports.
  • Lead publication of major agency products, including the annual report.
