John Burns Construction is seeking a detail-driven Estimator to support preconstruction across utility, infrastructure, and civil projects in The Colony, TX. You will build accurate bids for underground utilities, data centers, and municipal infrastructure.

This role demands risk awareness and a proactive, results-oriented approach to craft winning estimates while collaborating with project managers and leadership to align strategy with execution.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil or utility construction
• Strong understanding of underground utilities (wet, electrical, telecom)
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
• Experience with estimating software and takeoff tools
• High attention to detail and strong analytical mindset
• Self-driven with the ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil and utility construction projects
• Analyze plans, specifications, and bid documents
• Perform quantity takeoffs and pricing for labor, materials, and equipment
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing
• Identify project risks, gaps, and opportunities within bid packages
• Collaborate with project managers and leadership on strategy and execution
• Support value engineering and cost optimization efforts
