Job summary

City of San Bernardino seeks an experienced City Planner to lead the Planning Division, advancing land use policy, sustainable development, and a broad array of development projects. The role requires strategic leadership, strong knowledge of CEQA and state planning laws, and the ability to guide complex reviews while collaborating with regional agencies and the City Council.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or related field.
• Five+ years of professional planning experience including supervisory responsibilities.
• Strong understanding of CEQA and state planning requirements.
• Ability to communicate effectively with Planning Commission, City Council, developers and residents.
• Experience coordinating with city agencies and regional partners (SCAG/SBCTA).

Responsibilities

• Review development applications for land use consistency and CEQA compliance.
• Lead Planning Division operations and supervise staff.
• Prepare and present reports for Planning Commission and City Council.
• Coordinate with other City divisions and regional agencies to ensure aligned processes.
• Develop and monitor the Division's budget and implement process improvements.
