Job summary

George Mason University in Fairfax, VA seeks a Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (SVP & CFO) to lead the Fiscal Services division of ~100 staff, oversee accounting, budgeting, treasury, and internal controls, and partner with the President and SLT on strategic financial planning.

Reporting to the President, the CFO ensures timely financial statements, board reporting, and compliance with GASB and state requirements, while driving financial strategy across the university.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field.
• Experience leading or supporting a finance function in a large, complex org with >$1B budget.
• ERP accounting and budget systems experience and reporting tools.
• Experience with financial close and external audits.
• Strong supervisory experience and staff development.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Fiscal Services division with ~100 staff and setting direction.
• Oversee accounting, reporting, budgeting, treasury, and internal controls.
• Provide financial reporting to President and Board; ensure timeliness and accuracy.
• Develop strategic financial plans and manage risk for the university.
• Collaborate with SLT and Commonwealth agencies on financial decisions.
• Drive process improvements and implement best-in-class financial management.
