Job summary

Ketchikan Indian Community seeks a strategic Chief Financial Officer to steward tribal resources, oversee budgeting, audits, and compliance, and provide leadership to the Finance Department. The CFO will work with the Tribal Administrator, prepare monthly financial reports, coordinate external audits, manage grants, and ensure robust internal controls.

Preference is given to enrolled KIC members; remote work is considered but onsite presence is preferred in Alaska.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or Accounting is required.
• Minimum five (5) years’ experience in financial management.
• Experience in Governmental Accounting/Fund Accounting including working with encumbrances.
• Current CPA license preferred or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to protect KIC assets.
• Assign and monitor work, resolve operations problems, and implement new procedures.
• Promote a motivational environment and maintain department cohesion.
• Assist HR with recruiting and onboarding of staff.
• Orient new employees to department processes and provide training.
