Job summary

The General Council on Finance and Administration (GCFA) in Nashville, TN seeks a visionary Chief Financial Officer to modernize systems, reimagine services, and strengthen financial stewardship across GCFA and United Methodist ministries worldwide.

Reporting to the General Secretary, the CFO will guide financial strategy, governance, and investor relations, translating complex numbers into clear insights for church leaders and boards while ensuring fiduciary responsibility and compliance with

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration; MBA strongly preferred
• CPA or CMA preferred
• Minimum of ten years of financial leadership experience
• Knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, and internal controls
• Experience with ERP systems; NetSuite is a plus
• Experience translating complex financial information for boards and executives
• Strong leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills
• Experience in nonprofit/denominational organizations preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide vision for GCFA’s financial strategy and sustainability
• Oversee accounting, treasury, payroll, budgeting, and related functions
• Direct cash management, banking relationships, liquidity planning, and fund administration
• Ensure GAAP compliance, audits, and regulatory reporting
• Advise General Secretary and governance bodies with financial analysis and policy recommendations
• Build relationships with bishops, treasurers, and ministry partners and provide clear financial communications
• Lead the design and expansion of scalable shared services for conferences and agencies
