Job summary

GHRA Warehouse and Distribution Center in Houston seeks a Category Manager to lead purchasing for assigned categories. You will negotiate with suppliers, develop long-term category plans, and drive programs to maximize member value while managing budgets and promotions.

You will collaborate with vendors, members, and internal teams to optimize pricing, assortments, and inventory. A Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of purchasing experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in business, supply chain, or related field.
• 5 years retail/wholesale purchasing experience.
• Strong negotiation and analytical abilities.
• Excellent planning, organizing, and communication skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and data analysis.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Develops a long-term plan and strategy for category development.
• Plans and negotiates annual programs, cost, delivery and payment terms.
• Develops income and expense budgets for the category.
• Manages vendor contracts to ensure rebates and promotional funding.
• Manages category business plans, margins, and allowances.
• Establishes new product selections and exit plans for discontinued items.
• Develops planograms and merchandising recommendations.
• Manages promotional activities and seasonal selling events within categories.
• Monitors slow-moving or discontinued inventory and develops minimization plans.
• Creates reporting on category performance and shares updates with stakeholders.
