Job summary

Thompson Pipe Group – Pressure is seeking a Buyer to support high-volume procurement of engineered concrete, steel, and FRP pipe products for water and wastewater projects. The role involves reading technical drawings, evaluating materials, negotiating with suppliers, and ensuring timely delivery to meet project specifications.

You will collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Project Management, Receiving, and Production to optimize cost, lead times, and procurement accuracy while maintaining

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specs, and standards (AWWA, ASTM, ANSI).
• Demonstrated negotiation skills to secure favorable pricing and terms.
• Experience evaluating materials and managing vendor relationships.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret drawings and project docs to determine purchasing requirements.
• Evaluate materials and sourcing options balancing cost, lead time, and quality.
• Source and onboard suppliers; maintain vendor base and performance reviews.
• Negotiate pricing, terms, and lead times to support project schedules and margins.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Operations, Receiving and Production to resolve shortages.
• Issue POs and track supplier acknowledgments and deliveries.
• Monitor market trends to inform purchasing strategy.
• Maintain records in the ERP (IFS) system.
