Job summary

Nordstrom, Inc. seeks an analytical, results-driven Assistant Buyer who views the business through the customer lens. You will help shape seasonal merchandise strategy, collaborate with planners, and drive market prep and inventory decisions to improve department performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Merchandising or equivalent work experience.
• Experience in retail merchandising, planning or analysis.
• Experience supporting a high sales volume category (high SKU count, heavy seasonality, high revenue).
• Experience in a relevant merchandise category preferred.
• Demonstrated understanding of retail and the service environment of Nordstrom.
• Proficiency in MS Office suite.
• Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop an understanding of customer needs and expectations.
• Analyze market and competitors in their category.
• Establish seasonal department merchandise strategy.
• Partner with assistant buy planner on market preparation.
• Contribute to negotiations of exclusive offerings, terms, pricing, and vendor programs.
• Communicate selling agenda to online and stores.
• Contribute to in season inventory management including markdowns and exit strategies.
• Be a student of the business to drive department performance.
• Collaborate with regional merchandisers to respond to customer needs.
• Improve depth and precision of location-level inventory content.
