Job summary

Moody's is seeking a senior Data Scientist to build AI-enabled predictive models across commercial, customer, product, and portfolio use cases. You will ingest unstructured data with NLP/LLMs, engineer signals, and combine external data sources to enrich insights, delivering outputs via dashboards and BI tools.

The role emphasizes governance, experimentation, and cross-functional collaboration in a US-based, full-time setting.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in data science, applied machine learning, or quantitative modelling roles
• Strong Python skills (pandas, scikit-learn, NLP libraries) and SQL
• Hands-on experience building predictive models (classification, regression, time-series)
• Experience with NLP and unstructured text data, with familiarity in LLM and generative AI techniques
• Solid foundation in statistics, econometrics, and causal inference or experimentation
• Experience with Databricks, Spark, MLflow, or comparable cloud platforms (Azure preferred)
• Experience with source control, testing, and deployment for models
• Familiarity with BI platforms such as Power BI or Tableau for delivering model outputs
• Ability to translate business problems into analytical approaches and quantify impact
• Experience with commercial, customer, financial, risk, product, or operational data
• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking with awareness of model limitations
• Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences
• Preferred: background in economics/econometrics; experience in credit risk or SaaS environments
• Preferred: experience with customer analytics (propensity, churn, LTV)
• Preferred: experience with external data sources and entity resolution
• Preferred: Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, Azure ML, or Azure OpenAI
• Preferred: building AI-enabled apps including web-hosted BI products
• Deep expertise in AI with leadership in AI-related risk governance and responsible AI adoption

Responsibilities

• Ingest and interpret qualitative and unstructured information using NLP and large language models
• Convert unstructured content into structured, governed signals and features
• Combine internal and external data to enrich account, customer, and market views
• Evaluate and onboard new external data sources, assess quality and licensing
• Develop, validate, and maintain propensity-to-buy models for commercial prioritization
• Build account health scoring and churn prediction models
• Quantify customer and portfolio risk with ML techniques
• Identify and size growth opportunities with transparent assumptions
• Apply ML and generative AI to improve forecasting and segmentation
• Design AI-enabled workflows with human review and controls
• Prototype rapidly, test with experiments, measure business impact
• Track emerging AI techniques and suggest value addition
• Operationalize models in Databricks and Azure with versioning and monitoring
• Collaborate with engineering to build feature pipelines and datasets
• Deliver model outputs through dashboards and web-hosted BI
• Document data sources, features, assumptions, and model lineage
• Partner with cross-functional teams to frame business questions as analytical problems
• Translate results into actionable recommendations for technical and non-technical audiences
• Define success metrics and track value delivered by analytics
• Prioritize analytical investments based on business value
• Apply model governance including validation, back-testing, explainability and bias checks
• Ensure data quality and resolve issues with domain owners
• Use data and AI tools within Moody's approved environments
• Contribute to data science standards and best practices
