Job summary

Howden Re is seeking an Associate Director with 3–4 years of strategy and advisory experience. The role involves leading workstreams for insurance and reinsurance clients, engaging with senior executives, and mentoring junior staff. Strong presentation and financial modeling skills are required.

Onboarding includes 4 days/week in the office with a shift to hybrid work post-training. Minneapolis-area relocation/travel as needed and a collaborative, client-focused culture are emphasized.

Job description

We are seeking an Associate Director with 3 to 4 years of relevant experience to join our Strategic Advisory team. This role supports and leads key workstreams on strategic consulting engagements for leading insurance and reinsurance clients, helping organizations evaluate growth opportunities, optimize business performance, and address complex industry challenges.

The ideal candidate is highly analytical, client-focused, and comfortable interacting directly with senior executives, including C-suite stakeholders. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, professional presence, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. As an Associate Director, you will be expected to take ownership of project deliverables, contribute to client relationship management, and help mentor junior team members.

Key Qualifications
  • 3 to 4 years of experience in strategy consulting, insurance, reinsurance, financial services, or a related analytical advisory role
  • Strong client-facing skills with the confidence and maturity to engage senior leadership and executive teams
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage workstreams and drive projects from analysis through delivery
  • Excellent problem-solving, verbal communication, and presentation abilities
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and provide guidance to junior team members
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel, with the ability to develop executive-ready presentations, synthesize complex analyses into clear client deliverables, and build financial and business models
  • Intellectual curiosity and a strong interest in the insurance and reinsurance industry
  • Demonstrated leadership potential with ability to contribute and drive a high-performing team culture
Requirements
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree a plus
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Candidates must be physically located in or willing to relocate to the Minneapolis, MN area
  • During the onboarding and training period, employees are expected to work from the office 4 days per week. Following successful completion of training, the role will transition to a more flexible hybrid work arrangement with fewer required in-office days
