Job description

This posting intends to fill three (3) full-time positions. An eligibility list will also be established to fill roles over the next two (2) years, including regular, full-time, or limited-term positions.

The successful candidates will support our Key Accounts by building and managing relationships within one of the following areas:

  • Food and beverage manufacturing, cold storage facilities, warehouses, and distributors of goods
  • Hospitality industry, including lodging, entertainment, and national retail brands
  • Non-profits, faith-based organizations, and community partners

Understanding each customer’s unique business and organizational model is essential for delivering high-value, personalized programs, services, and carbon reduction initiatives. The role requires an ability to understand mechanical systems, grid infrastructure, and emerging technologies.

Purpose

Provide expertise, analysis, organization, and coordination to create customer value through relationship management, leveraging knowledge of the customer and market to foster growth, satisfaction, and loyalty via the account planning cycle.

Nature and Scope

Positions range from entry-level to senior, with responsibilities increasing with experience:

  • Strategic Account Advisor I: Entry-level, works under supervision, manages small to medium accounts, typically with three years of experience to progress.
  • Strategic Account Advisor II: Fully competent, handles small to large accounts, may require less supervision.
  • Strategic Account Advisor III: Senior level, handles complex accounts, provides leadership and expertise, and manages more intricate customer needs.
Duties and Responsibilities

The core functions include serving as a technical expert, establishing and maintaining relationships, coordinating services, resolving policy and service issues, and supporting community involvement. Senior-level staff lead complex customer interactions, develop strategic solutions, and mentor lower-level team members.

Required Education
  • High School diploma or equivalent
Required Experience

At least five (5+) years of responsible customer account management or energy advisory experience.

Knowledge of

Customer account management principles, relationship development, sales, negotiation, financial evaluation, performance reporting, and applicable policies and systems.

Skills To

Building customer relationships, identifying requirements, developing solutions, conducting presentations, and researching energy efficiency methods.

Desirable Qualifications
  • 5+ years in strategic account management across manufacturing, hospitality, retail, or non-profit sectors
  • Understanding of SMUD’s 2030 Vision and carbon reduction projects
  • Knowledge of SAP, SalesCloud, IEE/itron, OMS, and energy project processes
  • Experience with site assessments, sales, and energy sustainability initiatives
