Job summary

MSD of Warren Township is seeking a Short Term Removal (STR) Supervisor to supervise students in an educational setting, promote safety, and support building operations. You will walk hallways, monitor restrooms, and guide students to their next classes with a proactive approach.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, with preference for an associate degree or 60 college hours andParaPro eligibility. The position is non-exempt, hourly, and aligns with the school year calendar.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree or higher preferred or at least sixty (60) semester hours from an accredited institution.
  • Experience working with school-age children preferred.
  • Ability to complete the ParaPro Assessment (associate's degree or two years of college required) and pass the assessment at no cost.
  • Ability to perform essential functions, meet performance aptitudes, and fulfill physical/sensory/environmental requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high level customer service with a safety focus when interacting with staff, students, families, and community members on campus.
  • Ensure STR students complete assignments provided by teachers during the supervision period.
  • Monitor the STR classroom, building, and campus to enforce school rules and safe behavior.
  • Supervise hallways during passing periods and class periods, correcting student behavior as needed.
  • Inspect bathrooms after passing periods to ensure no lingering.
  • Assist teachers and administrators in handling student behavior issues.

B TITLE: Short Term Removal (STR) Supervisor

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt, hourly employee

WORK DAYS: 181 days (those days when students are scheduled to attend school)

STANDARD HOURS PER DAY: 7 hours per day (not including a 30-minute unpaid duty-free meal break

WORK YEAR: The work year for the Short Term Removal (STR) Supervisor begins with the first day that students are scheduled to report to school in August, and ends with the last day that students are scheduled to report to school in May or June.

SALARY SCHEDULE & BENEFITS: The Short Term Removal (STR) Supervisor is paid on the "Instructional Assistant" salary schedule, and is eligible for benefits on the "Support Staff" benefits schedule. Medical benefits are available the first day of the month following 60 days of employment, as long as enrollment forms are received within 31 days of the effective date.

REPORTS TO: The Short Term Removal (STR) Supervisor reports to the Principal.

SUPERVISES: The Short Term Removal (STR) Supervisor does not supervise any other employee(s).

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Short Term Removal (STR) Supervisor provides support in an educational environment by supervising students. This entails a proactive disposition, walking the hallways and checking the restrooms during passing periods and during class periods, as well as monitoring all other areas of the building as requested or assigned. Short Term Removal (STR) Supervisor interacts with students individually or in small groups, ensuring that students are behaving appropriately and giving directions to keep students moving toward their next classes. Performs related work as directed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Provides a high-level of customer service support with a focus on safety, as it relates to interacting with staff, students, families, and community members on school's campus.
  2. Ensures that students assigned to STR complete assignments provided to them by teachers while they are assigned to support.
  3. Monitors students in the STR classroom and throughout the building and around the campus to ensure that students are obeying school rules, as well as behaving in safe and appropriate ways.
  4. Monitors hallways during passing periods and during class periods to supervise and correct students' behavior.
  5. Inspects bathrooms immediately following passing periods to ensure that students are not lingering.
  6. Assists teachers and administrators in handling students' behavior problems.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Performs related duties as directed and/or assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal or designee.
ENTRY-LEVEL REQUIREMENTS:

1. EDUCATION/TRAINING: High school diploma or GED is required; Associate's degree or higher; or at least sixty (60) semester hours from an accredited institution of higher education, is preferred. (Note: official transcripts are required to validate education.)

2. EXPERIENCE: Previous work experience with school-age children is preferred.

3. CERTIFICATIONS &/OR LICENSES : Must have at least an associate's degree or two years of college passed the ParaPro Assessment. The HIghlander Park offers the ParaPro Assessment at no cost for all Warren Township prospective employees.   6. Functional Reasoning: Requires ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Involves routine work according to clearly prescribed standard practices, with some latitude for independent judgment.
  7. Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate physical effort in light work, definitely involving several hours of walking, interacting with students in crowded hallways, climbing stairs, and may involve some occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

Most tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communications ability. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.
