The Specialist, Editorial Communications is part of Global Engagement, a dynamic and collaborative team that helps shape the company’s actions, along with its engagement with internal and external stakeholders, to help build and protect the American Airlines brand and reputation.Specifically, this individual supports content strategy and communication stakeholders with their narrative and enterprise storytelling needs by helping to drive the communications goals in various channels.

  • Translate complex operational and corporate initiatives into clear, actionable messaging that resonates with team members.
  • Strengthen understanding of business decisions and operational changes by developing comprehensive content strategies and tactics to reach diverse audiences across multiple internal and external channels.
  • Manage and support internal and external communications channels to effectively reach team members, leadership and support staff, as well as media.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of American's business practices and the broader airline industry.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, and understand stakeholder needs.
  • Develop and execute compelling communications strategies around sensitive and fast-moving issues with tight deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with leaders and stakeholders across the Global Engagement team.
  • Use metrics to make recommendations and decisions regarding communications strategies and plans.
  • Ensure consistency in tone of voice and style for copy across all content and channels while keeping the American Airlines style guide current.
  • Edit and write copy for internal and external channels with a keen eye for detail and alignment of messaging.
All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience/training.
  • 3 years of relevant work experience in communications or media relations.
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
  • 5 years of relevant work experience in communications or media relations.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in aviation and the commercial airline industry.
  • Experience working in corporate communications or media relations for a large, multi-national organization.

  • Being hardworking and results-oriented and having the ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Thriving in a fast-paced environment where you work under pressure and can meet critical deadlines both during normal business operations and after hours as warranted.
  • The ability to make independent judgments and decisions while taking ownership of job responsibilities.
  • Excellent time-management and project-management skills and the ability to handle multiple projects at once.
  • Excellent written communication, verbal communication and presentation skills as well as strategic communications experience.
  • Exercising sound business judgment and demonstrating professionalism and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy and a strong understanding of AP style and ability to following other style and branding guidelines.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and digital signage platforms.
