Job summary

TEGNA is seeking a Story Desk Manager at KIDY/KXVA-TV in San Angelo, TX to lead the unified Story Management Desk. You will guide a multi-platform newsroom, oversee daily coverage decisions, and ensure swift, accurate breaking news with editorial rigor.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of newsroom leadership, strong editorial judgment, and a track record of coaching a team to produce compelling local stories across TV, web, and mobile platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
• 5+ years of journalism experience in a local newsroom, digital production, or related role.
• Strong news judgment and fast, sound editorial decision-making under pressure.
• Proven track record in breaking news handling and team management.
• Experience transforming and managing news gathering systems.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily coverage decisions and reporter assignments across platforms.
• Determine formats for each story and delivery timelines.
• Plan ahead for coverage and upcoming news cycles.
• Lead regular story check-ins and use audience insights to improve reach.
• Provide editorial support for MSJs, producers, and photojournalists.
• Lead newsroom coverage during breaking news with accuracy and urgency.
• Uphold TEGNA’s journalistic standards and values across platforms.
• Guide a multi-platform newsroom’s content strategy and presentation.
