Job summary

City of Newport News is seeking a Vector Control Supervisor to oversee city-wide vector control and vegetation management efforts. The role supports drainage crews and stormwater operations, reporting to the Vector Control Superintendent.

The position requires directing work orders, supervising staff, applying herbicides and pesticides, and operating trucks, foggers, and sprayers. CDL permit and NIMS certifications are required within defined timelines.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma and 1-2 years of related experience in vector control and vegetation operations or a related construction field and supervisory experience.
• The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Category 60 - Registered Technician Certification is also required.
• Requires a valid Virginia Drivers License with an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Directs and assigns work orders and related activities for vector/vegetation control.
• Supervises staff, manages performance, and develops training; handles employee relations and priorities.
• Operates vehicles and equipment including trucks, boats, sprayers, and foggers to complete projects.
• Responds to public complaints about rodents, weeds, and insects and reports pesticide usage and inventory.
