Job summary

Chatham County, GA Government is seeking a Stormwater Technician with a Class B CDL and HazMat endorsement. One year of experience in stormwater construction inspections or CCTV truck operation is required.

Under supervision, you will drive CCTV equipment, inspect stormwater systems, and perform ground maintenance to keep drainage structures functional and safe. You may respond to citizen complaints and assist with repairs and investigation tasks.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Hazardous Materials Endorsement at time of application.
• Must possess or obtain Level 1-A Certification in Fundamentals of Erosion Control.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Act as primary driver/operator for the CCTV system.
• Assist inspections of stormwater structures, piping, ditches, ponds, and tide gates.
• Perform ground maintenance in rights-of-way, remove debris from drains and basins.
• Remove litter from roadsides, inlets, medians, and curbs.
• Assist in responding to citizen complaints via site visits.
• Assist with repairs of catch basins, outfalls, and retention ponds.
• Support inspections of illicit discharges and other stormwater systems.
• Maintain a safe work area with traffic control and warning devices.

Examples of duties

Under supervision, you

• Act as a primary driver/operator for the CCTV.
• Assist in performing inspections of stormwater systems, including storm drainage structures, piping, ditches, ponds, and tide gates, and reports findings to the supervisor.
• Perform ground maintenance within rights-of-way, including removing leaves, weeds, vegetative overgrowth, and debris from storm drains, drainage ditches, catch basins, and other open and closed drainage structures.
• Remove litter and debris from roadway curbs, shoulders, inlets, medians, and sidewalks.
• Clear weeds and underbrush and collect litter and accumulated debris.
• Assist in responding to citizen complaints received, including those on private property and within rights-of-way by site visits.
• Assist with repairing catch basins, outfalls, junction boxes, yard inlets, and retention ponds.
• Assist with inspections of illicit discharges, tide gates, and other stormwater systems to ascertain that all aspects of the system are functioning properly.
• Maintain a safe work area, including setting up traffic control, cones, barricades, and warning devices.
• May perform flagging at worksites to ensure the safety of work crews and the public.
• Perform work in various weather conditions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, and
• At least one (1) year of experience in stormwater construction inspections, or
• At least one (1) year of experience operating CCTV trucks; or
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Hazardous Material Endorsement at the time of application.
• Must possess or be able to obtain a Level 1-A Certification in Fundamentals of Erosion Control.
• You must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) inspections.
