Job summary

The City of Miami Beach seeks an experienced supervisor to plan and direct the stormwater system's construction, maintenance and repair, reporting to the Infrastructure Division Director of the Public Works Department.

The role coordinates field crews and private contractors, conducts inspections, forecasts operational needs, develops budgets, responds to emergencies, and ensures safety, training and compliance across pump stations and underground infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field; experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis.
• Five years' experience relevant to the major duties/essential functions of the position.
• Extensive knowledge of stormwater system and pump station construction, repair, and maintenance.
• Knowledge of civil engineering principles applied to stormwater system operations.
• Valid Florida driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, directs, inspects, and evaluates stormwater work by staff and contractors.
• Directs construction and maintenance of catch basins, outfalls, trenches, wells, underground infrastructure and pump stations.
• Plans long-term operational needs, forecasts revenues and develops budget.
• Responds to complaints and emergencies; attends to on-site calls as required.
• Conducts field inspections to ensure adequate personnel, tools, and materials; ensures work is completed on schedule.
• Reports to the Infrastructure Division Director on project status; prepares written progress reports.
• Administers city work rules and collective bargaining agreements in personnel matters; participates in grievances.
• Plans purchases of new equipment and stays informed on industry developments.
• Investigates work-related accidents; coordinates with Risk Management.
• Plans and administers training and safety measures to reduce injuries.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job description

The incumbent in this position is responsible for planning and directing the construction, maintenance, and repair of the stormwater system for the City of Miami Beach and reports to the Infrastructure Division Director of the Public Works Department.

• Plans, organizes, directs, inspects, and evaluates the work of subordinates and private contractors assigned to the construction and maintenance of the storm sewer appurtenances such as catch basins, outfalls, trenches, wells, and underground infrastructure and pump stations
• Plans for long term operational needs, forecasts revenues and develops budget
• Assists in developing plans and procedures to respond to complaints and emergencies; responds to such calls in person as required
• Makes field inspections regularly to provide direction to work crews to insure that ample personnel, tools, and materials are available; insures that work is being properly accomplished and on
• schedule
• Reports to the Infrastructure Division Director concerning project status and progress; prepares and submits written reports as required; reviews progress reports of division activities and employee personnel related documents
• Administers the provisions of the City's work rules and applicable collective bargaining agreements in personnel matters ; participates in the grievance process
• Plans and recommends the purchase of new equipment; keeps informed of the latest developments in maintenance, repair and construction
• Investigates work-related accidents and submits injury reports; confers with the City's Risk Manager
• Plans and administers training and safety measures to reduce and control absenteeism and on-the-job injuries
• Performs other related duties as assigned

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Public Administration, Business Administration, or in a course of study related to the occupational field. Experience may substitute on a year for year basis
• Five years' experience relevant to the major duties/essential functions of the position; part-time experience will be prorated
• Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and equipment used in stormwater system and pump station construction, repair, and maintenance
• Considerable knowledge of civil engineering principles applied to stormwater system operations
• Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Florida for the type of vehicle or equipment operated with an acceptable driving record
