Job summary

Pinellas County Stormwater Operations is seeking a Hands-on Stormwater Pipe and Structure Technician to install, repair, and maintain underground stormwater pipes and drainage systems in Pinellas County. Responsibilities include trenching, pipe installation, structure setting, and related concrete work.

The role requires operations of light equipment, adherence to safety protocols, and ability to work in confined spaces around manholes and drainage structures.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of skilled craft or trade experience in construction, public works, stormwater maintenance, utility installation, excavation, concrete work, or a related field, OR;
• Completion of a one (1) year skilled trades vocational or technical school program with a diploma or certification and one (1) year of experience as described above, OR;
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

Responsibilities

• Assembles, installs, and repairs pipes, fittings and fixtures of water and drainage systems.
• Perform structure repairs and site clearing to maintain access to stormwater infrastructure, including working in and around confined spaces such as manholes, stormwater structures, and underground drainage systems.
• Operate Mini Excavator, Skid Steer and other equipment safely and efficiently.
• Loads and secures equipment/ supplies on a trailer and transports to the job site.
• Remove sediment and invasive vegetation from stormwater systems.
• Build structures and not limited to concrete work lids, sidewalks, valley curbs, and driveways.
• Sets up and operates a laser level to establish and verify pipe grades and elevations.
• Performs related work as assigned or required.

Stormwater Pipe and Structure Technician (Craftworker 1)

Location: 22211 U.S. Highway 19 North, Clearwater, FL 33765

Schedule: 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. (Monday- Thursday or Tuesday-Friday)

Pinellas County Stormwater Operations is looking for a hands-on Stormwater Pipe and Structure Technician to join our team. This position installs, repairs, and maintains underground stormwater pipes and drainage systems throughout Pinellas County. Work includes stormwater pipe, culverts, manholes, drainage structures, and heavy equipment. Duties include digging and preparing trenches, installing and repairing pipe, setting drainage structures, and performing related concrete work.

What Do You Need To Have?

• Two (2) years of skilled craft or trade experience in construction, public works, stormwater maintenance, utility installation, excavation, concrete work, or a related field, OR;
• Completion of a one (1) year skilled trades vocational or technical school program with a diploma or certification and one (1) year of experience as described above, OR;
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

Additional Requirements:

• Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Driver's License upon hire with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) driving report.
• Possession and maintenance of a validFlorida Commercial Driver’s License Class "B" licenseat time of hire or within six (6) months.
• Must obtain aTemporary Traffic Control (TTC formerly MOT)certificationwithin six (6) months of hire.
• Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.

Highly Desirable:

• CDL: Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A is highly desirable. Class B is required at hire or within six (6) months of hire.
• Pipe Installation & Repair: Experience installing and repairing stormwater, drainage, sewer, or underground utility pipes.
• Setting Pipe to Grade: Experience using a laser level or pipe laser to set pipe grade.
• Drainage Structures: Experience installing manholes, inlets, catch basins, culverts, and other drainage structures.
