Stormwater Operator I - Tree Management

PAY RANGE DOQ: $17.20 - $27.52/HR.

Plant City, FL

One year of tree-related work is required for this position.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm

Position Summary:

Performs semi-skilled and limited skilled work in the maintenance of streets, stormwater, and rights-of-way. Employees may be assigned to one or several functions within the classification depending on department needs. Work is reviewed through reports, discussions, and results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. The omission of specific statements does not exclude similar, related, or logical work assignments. Incumbents may perform some or all of the activities described below depending on their area of responsibility.

  • Performs semi-skilled work related to tree trimming tasks.
  • Performs limited skilled work in streets, rights-of-ways, and waterways using basic maintenance equipment.
  • Washes, cleans, and maintains equipment.
  • Operates pressure washers, chainsaws, trimmers, chipper/shredder, stump grinder, small trucks, and automotive equipment.
  • Assists with traffic control.
  • Assists with obtaining tools and materials, setting up barricades and warning devices for traffic or hazards.
  • May be required to standby or work after hours.
  • Prepares daily activity sheets and documentation as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work around traffic and underground utilities such as electric, gas, water, sewer, and communication lines.
  • Must be capable of working at heights above 75 feet.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of related work experience, including tree maintenance, pruning, removal, and care.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Valid Florida driver’s license and insurability by the city’s insurance provider.
  • Incident Management System (NIMS) training within one year of employment.
